Ravana falls

 

Ravana   falls   is  a  popular   sightseeing   attraction   in sri   lanka .  It  currently    ranks  as  one   of   the    widest   falls  in  the   country. 

The falls   have   been   named   after  legendary    king   Ravana,  which   is  connected    to   the   famous   Indian   epic,  the  Ramayanaya.  peoples  also  believe   that Rama' s  queen   bathed   in   a   pool   that   accumulated    the   water    falling   from    this    waterfall.   they   believed     that   Ravana   has   played    the  Ravanahatha    over   here.

             Ravana  falls   measures    approximately     25m      in height   and   cascades     from     an     oval   shaped   concave  rock   outcrop.   During   the   local   wet   season,  the   waterfall    turns    into   what   is   said   to   resemble   an   areca   flower   with   withering    petals.   but  this  is  not  case   in  the   dry  season  ,where   the   flow   of   water   reduces    dramatically.  The   falls  form   part    of  the  Ravana  Ella Wildlife   Sanctuary,  and    is   located    6   km   away   from   the   local   railway   station    at   Ella.

  Rock   pools  of  ravana  falls   are    perfect   for   an  afternoon   swim.when  you   come  to  ravana  falls  you   will   get   a chance   to   have  brekkie    overlooking     the   sunrise.

St. Clair's Falls

 

St. Clair's Falls    is one of the widest   waterfalls in Sri Lanka and  is  commonly known   as   the   "Little  Niagara   of   Sri   Lanka". It   is   one   of   six   waterfalls affected by the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Project.

The falls are situated 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of the town of Talawakele  on the  Hatton  -Talawakele Highway in   Nuwara Eliya distric.

The falls are located along the  Kotmale  oya , a tributary of the Mahaweli  river, as it cascades over three rock outcrops into a large pool,  running   through a tea estate, from which   the   falls derive their name from, 

                The waterfalls consist of two falls called "Maha    Ella" (Sinhalese "The Greater Fall"), which is 80 metres (260 ft) high and 50 metres   (160 ft)  wide and "Kuda Ella", (Sinhalese "The Lesser Fall"), which is 50 metres (160 ft) high and located   immediately downstream of the main fall.   St Clair's falls are the 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.

Dunhida falls

 Formed   by  a  diversion   of   Badulu  oya  river, the  Dunhinda   falls  is  best  known  for  its  smokey.  There  is no  way  you  can  miss  Dunhinda  while  talking  about  most   beautiful  waterfalls  in  sri lanka.  

                  This  fall  is  64m   height.  It   is  not  one  of  the highest  waterfalls   in  sri lanka   but  still   absolutely   worth  a  visit.  Dunhinda   falls  is  30km   away  located   from   Ella  ,and   from   the  entrance   gate  you  have   to  walk  about  1.5km   to   the   waterfall.. The   hike  itself  is   beautiful,  especially   for   people   interested   in  wild life.You   have  the   chance   to  see   different   species   of  birds   ,butterflies,   monkeys     and   even   deers.  

     The    best   time   to  see   the   waterfall   is   from   November    to  March   during   the  rainy   season  as  the    waterfall   will  have   more   volume   and   power   which   results  in   more   spray   as   well,

Baker"s falls

Baker's  falls  is  located   in   Horton   plains  national    park  on  a   tributary  of   the Belihuloya.Baker falls   is  named  after the famous explorer  ,sir  Samual  Baker.  

             The height   of  the  Baker"s  water  falls  is  20 meters.  Many   Rhodudendron   and  Fern  bushes  can  be  seen  around  the  waterfall.

There  are   2 trails  to the  falls.  Try  the   right  path  over  the  left  one, this  will  allow  you   to  enjoy   hortain   plains  and  absorb  the  beauty  of  Baker's  falls  before  you get   too  exhauster..Baker"s   falls  is  a  most  popular    waterfall   in  Srilanka.  💧

Devon falls

Devon   falls  known  as  the  "veil of the valley",is  a  waterfall   in  sri  lanka. The   falls   is named   after   a pioneer   English    coffee  planter  called  Devon  ,whose plantation was situated    nearby the  falls.

The  waterfall is   97 m  high   and  is   the 19 th  highest  in  the  country  .Devon  falls  is situated   6km  west   of   Talawakele,   Nuwara eliya   distric   on the  A7   highway.  You can   even   stop  at   the    Mlense Tea Castle   to admire  the  view  while  you  enjoy  a cup of   authentic  tea.  

Diyaluma falls

 

Diyaluma is 220m high and the second highest waterfall in sri lanka and 361 st highest waterfall in the world.'Diyaluma' which means 'rapid flow of water'  in sinhalese.

 It is situated 6 km away from koslanda in Badulla distric on Colombo-Badulla highway.From  Makaldeniya junction on Poonagala road ,it is a 30 minute downhill hike to the upper falls and then a 10 minutes walk to diyaluma falls.

Also ,if you  are looking for unique -camping  experience in sri lanka,the top of Diyaluma falls is a must  try.

Bambarakanda falls

 This is the tallest waterfall in sri lanka.It is 263m in height.Bambarakanda is the 299 th tallest waterfall in the world.It is a seasonal waterfall that is at its peak capacity from october  to march and remote location makes it slightly tough to access.Kalupahana is the exact location and is in a forest glade,four miles away from the colombo-bandarawela road,but can be reached on the Haputale-Kalupahana road 22 kms from balangoda. 

             Due to strong winds blowing acrossthe falls,the entire stream sways to and fro and is a breathtaking view from the mountain top.Visitors may be at risk ,for falling  over the falls.
